A robust system for container-based orders

A new B2B ordering portal with SAP Commerce Cloud and SAP S/4HANA integration

In the course of replacing its existing ERP system with SAP S/4HANA, iSC GmbH, the subsidiary of Einhell Germany AG and responsible for the Group’s IT, also decided to modernize its internal ordering portal. The electrical engineering giant from Landau an der Isar chose SAP Commerce Cloud as the technology foundation for its new B2B ordering portal, thanks to its seamless integration with SAP S/4HANA.

A highly effective team of Customer Experience specialists from Arineo created the portal for container-based orders and implemented numerous validators as well as configuration and logistics features. This ensures that only valid orders are transferred to SAP S/4HANA and result in production orders at manufacturing partners in the Far East. Today, 77 national subsidiaries and selected key accounts process their orders through the portal in an optimally controlled manner – meaning that shortly after launch, the system has already made a noticeable contribution to increasing the competitiveness of the world’s leading supplier of battery-powered tools and garden equipment.

The Requirements

Container & consolidation logic

Fill levels and routes (port/hub) must be checked automatically, as orders are placed by container or delivered to specific intermediate warehouses.

Minimum quantities & currency rules

Check for item-specific minimum quantities and fixed currency assignments had to be implemented using rule-based logic and customer-specific exceptions.

Clear user interface

The target group of the ordering portal consists of professionals who know the part numbers. The process should therefore work with just a few clicks and be very easy to navigate.

Integration of third-party systems

The Diskover planning tool was to be seamlessly integrated with SAP Commerce Cloud. It transfers pre-planned quantities and promotions that control the order flow.

A small, highly effective team of Customer Experience experts from Arineo worked closely with 4process AG, Einhell’s SAP S/4 partner, and iSC GmbH, Einhell’s IT subsidiary, to create a lean, high-performance ordering system that validates orders in containers and transfers them flawlessly to SAP S/4HANA. The ordering interface has been optimized for efficiency and clarity. Power users enter material numbers directly, and the checkout process has been reduced to just a few steps.

The technical architecture of the ordering portal includes a robust interface to S/4HANA that transfers standard data, container and consolidation information, variant configurations, and promotion indicators. In addition, the Diskover scheduling tool is connected, providing pre-planned quantities and seasonal promotions from SAP S/4HANA. For country-specific requirements such as power plugs or handbook languages, the system uses an external configuration service and the external language group service, whose parameters are passed along as order attributes.

A validation layer ensures that all orders comply with the complex logistics and business rules. These include minimum order quantities, container fill levels, route and port logic, and currency and price rules. Incorrect orders are not transferred to the ERP, but can be corrected with clear, actionable instructions. All parameters – from minimum fill levels to consolidation types – can be easily adjusted in the back end, allowing Einhell’s admins to react flexibly to market and process changes.
