As part of its strategic migration of IT systems to the cloud, KE Elektronik GmbH decided to migrate and modernize its existing project management portal to the Microsoft Cloud, thereby better integrating it into its existing IT landscape. Since dedicated standard software solutions did not fully meet the requirements of the manufacturer of cable harnesses for the automotive and aviation industries, the Arineo team was commissioned to implement a highly customized solution based on the Microsoft Power Platform. The team created a comprehensive project portal, including integration with Project Worx, RSS feeds, and an interface to the SAP backend. This newly created portal served as the blueprint for both the customer portal (for all customer information that is not stored in the ERP system) and the internal projects portal, both of which were also developed by Arineo. Additionally, Arineo installed a managed environment with Azure DevOps, following Microsoft best practices. Updates are rolled out automatically and in a traceable manner to the company’s productive system, based in Kressberg Marktlustenau, via pipelines.
With the new Power Platform project management process, meeting documentation obligations and finding project information is child's play for KE Elektronik GmbH employees.
All data is stored and indexed in a manner that allows it to be used as a knowledge base for artificial intelligence without issue.
On each project start page in the new project management portal, all relevant project information is visible at a glance. To make this possible, third-party systems such as SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Project Worx, and RSS feeds were integrated.
The strategic focus on the Microsoft Cloud saves license costs for third-party systems.
All project steps and changes to the company's IT landscape are managed in an audit-proof manner via pipelines in accordance with Microsoft's Managed Environment Strategy.
The KE Elektronik team is trained and supported by Arineo in the use of the Power Platform.
To implement the project portal, the Arineo team first developed a Power App for project approval. As soon as a new project is initiated, the sales department can request project approval via the Power App, which includes a Power Automate approval workflow. If the project is approved, a project is automatically created in Project Worx in the background and embedded via an API as an iFrame into an automatically created SharePoint Online page. This page includes a predefined folder structure and an RSS feed providing up-to-date customer information. In the project portal, all documents are automatically indexed based on the folder structure, simplifying search via the integrated PnP Search Web Part and optimizing the information for further AI processing.
The internal projects portal and the customer portal (for all customer data not stored in SAP S/4HANA Cloud) were implemented in a similar manner to the project portal.
During the project portal implementation, the Arineo team also established a managed environment in line with Microsoft’s best practices at KE Elektronik GmbH. Project documentation is now entirely handled in Azure DevOps, and modular, automated pipelines ensure the deployment of changes from the development environment to the test environment and, finally, to the live environment. All changes are stored in GitHub in an audit-proof manner.
The Arineo team trained KE’s key users on Power Platform, particularly in Power Automate and Power Apps. The team supported them in developing practical apps, such as for reimbursing hospitality expenses or requesting vacation coverage. Together, the two teams also developed a modular ticket system with corresponding workflows, which can be used and adapted as a company-wide template. To date, this approach has resulted in a total of twelve Power Apps, eight of which were created entirely independently thanks to the practical training provided by Arineo’s Power Platform team.
With Azure DevOps, we have developed a comprehensive long-term staging and deployment plan for our IT infrastructure, providing security and streamlining our work processes. New Power Platform applications can be developed, tested, and deployed without risk. With this level of security, our Power Platform team can confidently pursue new developments. The entire company benefits from this!
