Artificial intelligence from Southern Lower Saxony honored at global food trade fair

Göttingen-based IT service provider Arineo has developed an artificial intelligence for Symrise, a globally active supplier of fragrances and flavorings with headquarters in Holzminden. This forms the basis of Symvision AI™, a Symrise solution for predicting flavor trends. It was awarded the Digital Transformation Initiative Award at the Gulfood manufacturing trade fair in Dubai and has the potential to fundamentally change the food industry.

The artificial intelligence within Symvision AI™ makes it possible to accurately predict taste trends worldwide. The AI supports food development by not only observing consumers’ flavor preferences and needs but also predicting new food trends at an early stage.

For the joint project team from Arineo and Symrise, this was an exciting challenge. “It was initially necessary to manage a huge volume of data, which also came in different formats. This included Symrise data from the past 10 years as well as data from social media listening, i.e., the automated scanning of terms in social media,” explains Stefan Heinrichs, Data Intelligence Consultant at Arineo.

But it was worth the effort. “Symvision AI™ is topped off with an intuitive user interface, designed by the Rosdorf-based software company Talvaro. Through this interface, we can currently filter over 8,000 flavors, ingredients, and product properties by category and obtain detailed information on the geographic distribution of these properties and the expected trend. We also have a comprehensive glossary through which additional information can be accessed,” says Dr. Dariah V. Lutsch, Research Manager Sensory & Consumer Insights, Symrise AG.
