How did you get into project management?
I got into project management by chance. After studying communication science, I came across an IT consultancy firm. I started there in the project management office and have been responsible for my own projects for many years.
What would you have done if you hadn’t become a project manager?
I would have gone into corporate communications, focusing on intercultural communication.
Which project has particularly influenced you or was especially important to you?
An ERP project: implementing Microsoft D365FO at a large client with subsequent international rollouts. We adapted and made the methodology more agile during the project, with specialists from Microsoft and other project managers. We developed many best practices and applied what we learned in subsequent projects.
What project are you currently working on?
At the moment, I’m working on a special project. We are transitioning our company into employee ownership (employee-owned company). In June 2023, we founded an association. I am the association’s chairwoman with a board of eleven people. The association will purchase Arineo GmbH from the current shareholders and transfer it to the foundation. The employees of Arineo GmbH will then be able to become members of the association, which is at the heart of the EOC model. Realizing this unique form of company ownership with our colleagues is a lot of fun.
Are there specific standards and methods in your field?
We developed our own methodology for our ERP implementations with an agile approach. The model provides a lot of transparency for customers and helps us successfully execute our projects.
Which historical projects do you admire the most?
The moon mission is fascinating because it required so much precision. There was no real way to make a prototype. Everything has to run very smoothly.
What would be your dream project?
I would find an environmental protection project exciting; connecting new technology in the interests of sustainability.
What distinguishes you as a project manager?
I usually bring a positive attitude, am a good listener, and am very structured and solution-oriented.
What motivates you to work on and lead projects?
I enjoy working in a team. It’s wonderful to see results, to have helped the client, and to receive positive feedback.
What tips do you have for the next generation of project managers?
Be attentive and listen! Also, always think ahead: run through everything once and consider what needs to be done.
What qualities do you appreciate most in project managers?
Being structured and reliable. Keeping agreements.
What is the greatest joy for you as a project manager?
When the project participants enjoy what they are doing and make progress at the same time.
What is the greatest misfortune for you as a project manager?
When someone feels lost or left behind.
What are future trends?
Agile working is already standard for many and will continue to become more established. Additionally, the focus on the people working on the project will grow. It’s not just about figures, data, and facts but about the people working on the project and their skills.
What advice would you give readers?
Be open to new methods and just try something new. Don’t always cling to old ways. Try to break new ground.
