Flexibility in the workplace

When Moritz started at Arineo just over a year ago, he knew he could flexibly arrange his working hours. Today, he works 36 hours a week - 90% of a full-time position - and has created a structure that allows him to work on exciting client projects while still having enough free time in his everyday life.

“I work a normal eight-hour day from Monday to Thursday and only until noon on Fridays. I have a calendar blocker for this – it was discussed and agreed with the team, and there has never been a problem,” says Moritz. Working time at Arineo offers flexibility: “Theoretically, I could arrange my schedule differently each week, as long as it’s coordinated with the team and fits in with my project work. But for me, this regular structure works best.” This flexibility means Moritz can work more hours during busy weeks if the project requires it and later with time off in consultation with the team.

Why part-time?

Moritz chose to work 90% because his partner also uses this model, and they can enjoy more free time together. “It’s just nice to start the weekend early on Fridays. You can get the housework done, maybe head off earlier – there are many advantages.” He was pleasantly surprised that Arineo was so open to this request:

"It wasn't even an issue in the application process in terms of 'having to negotiate.' I simply said that I would like to work 90% - and it was accepted immediately."

His role as a Microsoft Dynamics CE consultant was easily reconciled with the part-time model. In his previous company, the requirements for reducing working hours were stricter. At Arineo, he has more flexibility.

Are there challenges?

Moritz finds the switch to part-time work completely unproblematic. “Of course, sometimes a meeting falls on a Friday afternoon. Then, I coordinate with my team to find the best way to handle it – it’s usually straightforward. Often, colleagues and clients start the weekend earlier, so that doesn’t really make a big difference.”

His tip for anyone considering part-time work?

“Just do it! In the past, I worried too much about how part-time work would be received – totally unnecessarily. There were no negative reactions at my previous company, and there were none here, either. You should just express your needs openly and work together to find a suitable solution.”

For Moritz, his working model perfectly balances professional fulfillment and more free time. And thanks to Arineo’s flexibility, he can shape his 90% in a way that suits him best.
