Why age doesn’t matter at Arineo | Part 2

In this interview, Ute Delkeskamp and Stephan Kallus, both 50-plus, explain why they consciously decided to make a fresh start at Arineo. They talk about reliable part-time models, flexible ways of working, and tasks in customer projects where their experience is in demand.

What made you decide to move to Arineo?

Ute Delkeskamp: I moved to Arineo because, right from the very first conversations, I experienced appreciation for employees aged 50+. The advertised position in Application Managed Service in the Microsoft environment matched my professional expectations exactly. Another important factor was the company’s concept of the employee-owned company. After my experiences in recent years, I wanted to work in a company where employees can help shape things. The flexible working hours and part-time options also fit in well with my life planning. I particularly appreciate the flexibility to work remotely, on-site at client companies, and in the office with colleagues. Working exclusively remotely is not an option for me.

Why is flexibility so important to you?

Stephan Kallus: The older I get, the more my needs change. Instead of continuing to climb the traditional career ladder, I would like to make targeted use of my experience. And instead of a pay rise, free time has become more important to me. I want to be able to decide flexibly where and when I work, for example, to attend personal appointments without needing to take time off. This is possible at Arineo. I work part-time and organize my work independently, as long as my tasks allow it.

I can distribute my working hours differently from week to week. For example, Thursdays are free, but I can change that if another day would be better for professional or personal reasons. This flexibility gives me the freedom to work independently.

Which training and development opportunities are relevant to you?

Ute Delkeskamp: Further training is important for me to keep professionally up to date in the fast-moving digital world and to support our clients in the best possible way. For me, this includes not only traditional training such as seminars or courses, but also professional exchange with colleagues. Arineo offers many possibilities in this regard. There are regular meetings to exchange ideas in different teams, as well as targeted training sessions. I find formats particularly interesting that go beyond purely technical topics and strengthen personal skills, for example, the “Giving feedback, taking feedback” course.

How can Arineo particularly benefit from your experience?

Stephan Kallus: For a long time, I was a typical early adopter. I tried out new technologies early on, had Wi-Fi at home, and a smartphone when that was still uncommon for many people. As I’ve gotten older, this urge to always have the latest thing has diminished somewhat, and I’ve realized how valuable my experience is. I have taken on many roles in my professional life, including developer, consultant, support employee at a large software manufacturer, salesperson, as well as mentor and team leader with management responsibility. Today, I bring this broad experience to my roles in sales and service at Arineo. I also take on a leadership role for some of my colleagues. It is precisely this combination of experience, overview, and hands-on practice that helps the company and the teams.
