My first year of training | Jan Kaufmann | Part 1

For Jan Kaufmann, the IT specialist training program - with its mix of programming, creativity, and technical requirements - is the perfect fit. In this interview, he discusses the typical tasks of an application developer and shares what he enjoys most about his training and his training company.

What responsibilities do application developers have?

Jan: As an application developer, I create software that fits the users’ exact needs. Initially, I take a close look at the task, come up with a solution, and then write the code. But it’s not just about programming – testing, debugging, and documentation are also part of the job.

An example: In a project for our fictional trainee company AriNobel, we modernized an old inventory management system. I was responsible for creating the delivery notes for shipping. I added new buttons, adapted the database connection, and programmed the logic.

What I find particularly exciting:every task is different. You have to think creatively and stay technically sharp. It’s just fun to build something that’s actually needed and works.

Why did you decide to train as an IT specialist?

Jan: When I was a kid, my dad let me try out car racing games on the PC. Since then, I’ve been hooked on computers. At school, I started taking computer science in the 8th grade and later even chose it as one of my advanced courses in high school. That’s when I realized that I particularly enjoy the logical thinking involved in programming – and I knew I wanted to do that professionally.

Why did I decide to train as an application developer? There are several reasons for this.

  • I’m constantly learning – whether it’s AI, online services, or smart devices. The IT world is continually evolving, and it never gets boring.
  • Creativity and structure – you work on solutions that not only work, but also look good and are secure. That keeps the work very varied.
  • Software is in demand everywhere – whether in medicine, gaming, or industry – offering countless opportunities to specialize and grow in the future.

What do you enjoy most?

Jan: Working on my own solutions. I think about the logic, try out different approaches, and then decide on the best one. Of course, things don’t always run smoothly – but when everything works out in the end, that’s the best feeling ever for me. That’s precisely what I love about programming!

More about training at Arineo

What do you like about your training company?

Jan: I’ve been a trainee at Arineo for a year now – and even if it sounds cheesy, I couldn’t imagine a better place for my training. I genuinely enjoy going to work every day and never feel stressed or anxious. The tasks are exactly what I want as a budding developer: varied, exciting, and hands-on.

What I especially like: We don’t just work through our training plan, but actively shape projects with our trainers. This makes learning much more interactive – no dry to-do lists, but real thinking and participation. As a result, I learn something new every day and improve my programming skills.

In addition to technology, there are also regular workshops and events – for example, on communication, agile working, or personal development. That’s a great addition to my training and also helps me personally.

And what really makes the difference: the people here. My fellow apprentices, the trainers, the whole team – everyone is open, helpful, and easy-going. The mix of exciting content and a relaxed atmosphere makes Arineo the perfect place for my apprenticeship.

Stay tuned: in Jan’s next article, you’ll learn how the IT specialist training program focused on application development is structured and which qualities make the job fun.
