Many young people spend a lot of time creating their application documents. What’s most important, from your point of view?
Maike: For me, the most important thing is that you stay authentic and try to show something of your personality with your application. Think about what makes me special. Where are my strengths? And why does this training suit me? If you’ve worked on your own projects or are personally involved in certain topics – perhaps through social engagement – tell us about it. This kind of information helps us get a first impression of who you are and what interests you.
What do you even need a cover letter for today? What should be included and what shouldn’t?
Maike: The cover letter gives you the opportunity to tell us more about your motivation. Why did you choose this apprenticeship? And why would you like to do your training with us? At the same time, you can introduce yourself as a person. Tell us about your strengths and why you think they’re important in the training. Best support them with concrete examples. Basically, when writing, ask yourself: why should Arineo invite me for an interview? General platitudes say little about you. Your cover letter doesn’t have to sound extraordinary – it’s much more important that we learn something about you from it.
Many people use AI when writing today. Is that okay?
Maike: Of course, you can use AI to get ideas or improve the text linguistically. However, the content should come from you, and the application should really fit you in the end. So don’t simply copy expressions that you would never use yourself. At the latest, during the interview, we will talk about your motivation and your experiences. Then what you have told us in your application should also make sense and be a good fit for you.
Application with AI - yes or no?
AI can help you gather ideas or improve your writing. However, the content should always come from you and be a good fit for you. Because at the latest during the interview, you should be able to explain why you applied and what makes you unique.
Does a resume have to be complete and perfect?
Maike: A resume doesn’t have to be perfect. If there are gaps, you can simply briefly explain what you did during that time, for example, “orientation phase” or “seeking training.” Most importantly, your resume should be clear, well-structured, and logically organized.
We’re also interested in more than just your education and previous work experience. Internships, your own projects, hobbies, and language or other skills can also tell us a lot about your interests and the experience you have already gained.
What documents actually belong to a complete application today?
Maike: For us, a complete application includes a cover letter, your resume, and your school certificates. If you also have internship confirmations, certificates, or other relevant documents, you are welcome to enclose them.
What mistakes do you encounter most often?
Maike: What repeatedly stands out is very generic standard cover letters from which it is not apparent why someone is particularly interested in this training or Arineo. A wrong contact person, spelling errors, or incomplete documents can easily be avoided with a final check before sending.
My tip: ask a family member or friend to proofread your documents. Others often catch mistakes you no longer see, even after reading them several times. They can also tell you whether your application is understandable and coherent and whether it conveys a good impression of who you are and why you are applying. This is important because your application documents are usually our first contact with you. They should therefore give us the best possible and authentic first impression of you.
Before you send the application, take a few minutes to check that all documents are complete and in the correct order.
What personally convinces you about an application?
Maike: I am convinced when I notice that someone has taken the time to learn about Arineo and the advertised training. If the application clearly explains why this particular training interests you and why you want to do it with us, I get a much better impression of the person behind it.
What advice would you like to give applicants?
Maike: Be yourself and show us what makes you unique. Consider which strengths you bring and why the training and Arineo might be a good fit for you. An application doesn’t have to be perfect – it should above all be true to you.
