In November 2020, the collaboration with Hornbach Baumarkt AG (German link), a Europe-wide company, began as a result of the need to replace their Lotus Notes environments and associated applications. In addition to this project, which will continue until 2022, the collaboration was to be intensified – with a highly topical issue: due to the developments in the context of the Covid 19 pandemic and the associated vaccination offensive, including the company environment, Hornbach decided to develop a Corona vaccination app. Das Ziel war, die Organisation der vom Betriebsarzt durchgeführten Impfungen der Hornbach-Mitarbeitenden sicher und unkompliziert mittels einer App durchzuführen.
Using the Power Platform for fast implementation and adaptability
With Gold expertise across the entire Microsoft Power Platform, Arineo’s colleagues have already developed over 120 Power Apps for various disciplines. A Power App offers the advantage of being developed quickly and easily based on a low-code/no-code platform. Especially for apps needed at short notice, like the Corona vaccination app, a real bonus!
In coordination with Hornbach’s crisis management, Arineo’s relevant project team designed the apps, the underlying processes, and the data model. Two apps were implemented in collaboration with Hornbach’s UX department. One was a self-service booking app for employees at Hornbach headquarters and the other, a reception app in which crisis management can book vaccination appointments for employees at the 96 German stores and the logistics department.
Advantages of the apps:
- Flexible adjustments of vaccines and their intervals for the different types of vaccines
- Easy creation of time slots in the booking interface
- Automatic creation of the necessary documents for the vaccinated people
- Creation of an export file per vaccination appointment for reporting to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI)
Go-live of the app with mid-June vaccination date
Following the successful development and implementation of the vaccination app, the first employees were able to book a vaccination appointment in the app on June 12. Further dates were successively activated in the following days and weeks. After the go-live, we remain available to support Hornbach with any troubleshooting or process optimization from live use.
This customer project has once again shown us how diverse the application areas of the Power Platform / Power Apps can be: whether simple authorizations, multi-level approvals, expense reporting, electronic purchase requisition with SAP, onboarding of new employees – the range of applications is almost limitless. We are pleased to have indirectly made a small contribution to the Covid-19 response through the Corona Vaccination App.
